2024 Ontario Select Softball Tournament Association Girls Eligibility
Age groups for Select follow the standard age groupings up to and including Bantam.
U11 Mite | Born in 2013 - 2015 |
U13 Squirt | Born in 2011 - 2012 |
U15 Novice | Born in 2009- 2010 |
U17 Bantam | Born in 2007- 2008 |
For the 2024 season the Midget Girls age groupings are often allowed as follows
Girls | U21 2006 – 2003 plus 1 players up to 1 year older ( 2002) who cannot pitch |
WARNING: If you have overage U21 player it is best to confirm their eligibility with the host to avoid showing up on the day of the tournament and finding out that your team has ineligible players.
For 2024 Season
- TEAM Eligibility For the Girls OSSTA Championships are:
- All teams from all Associations must play in TWO of the OSSTA scheduled Tournaments within a Division in order to participate at the August OSSTA Championships in that Division.
- Player Eligibility For the Girls OSSTA Championships are:
- Each player from each Association's Team must play in TWO of the OSSTA scheduled tournaments with in a Division in order to participate at the August OSSTA Championships (this includes Call ups ). Being listed on the roaster but not playing means the player is ineligible to play in the August Provincial Championships.
- An exception maybe granted to a player to play on the Championship weekend who could not meet the above condition providing the necessary Medical documentation indicating the reason why is submitted to the OSSTA prior to the tournament. In Addition Medical clearance is now required if an exception was granted.
Player eligibility means the following:
- Players Teams carded with OASA or PWSA or ORSA Associations or play on a team located outside the Province of Ontario during the calendar year are not permitted to play in any OSSTA Tournament.
- Players are registered / insured with and play in your house league association.
- Players are not allowed to play as call-ups for teams outside their registered Association.
- Players who did not make an Association's Select Team are not allowed to play for any other Association's Select Team.
- If an Association can form two teams at the same division (e.g. Squirt), players from Team "A" are not allowed to play for Team "B" or vise versa. Calls ups for Team "A" or Team "B" must come the house league players not playing Select at that division or from a Select Team from a lower Division. Players from either Team are allowed to be call ups to the higher division.
- Call ups that play on Team "A" throughout the season are not allowed to be call ups for Team "B" throughout the season or vise versa. This rule applies for the Championships as well.
New for 2024
Select Teams are permitted to play in ONE Rep Tournament provided the team has obtained The Tournament Insurance from PWSA and has been approved to play in the Rep Tournament.
Select players are allowed to play in one Rep Loop Game as an individual player or in ONE REP tournament with their team . If a player plays in more than one loop Game or one tournament as an individual they will be ineligible to play on a Select Team. If a Select team from any division within an Association plays in more than ONE REP tournament the Association will be ineligible to play in any Select Tournament for a period of TWO years.
Additional Player Eligibility for Interlocking Teams
- Associations playing in an interlocking loop may form a single Select team under the following conditions:
- If an Association only has one House League Team at a specific division and cannot form a Select Team on their own they are allowed to join with another Association provided that the joining Association only has one House League Team at the same division and cannot form a Select Team on their own and each Associations play in the same Interlocking Loop.
- Neither Association is already fielding a team within the same Select Division.
- If either Association has a Select team at the lower division, these players are not allowed to be called up to play Select for the combined team. Call-ups for the combined Select team must come from the House League Division from either Association.
- Players from the combined team are not allowed to play as call-ups for any other Select team.
- Players who did not make the combined Select Team are not allowed to play for any other Association's Select Team. They should be used as call-ups for the combined team.
- Executive permission has been granted from both Associations. Copy of permission is on file along with proof of insurance for the combined team with the OSSTA. Note the team will be required to submit these papers to each Tournament Host.
- Notification from the two Associations along with a copy of the Teams roster have been filed with the OSSTA.
